History of the Church
Former Pastors: Rev. Wesley and Rev. Judith Luke
A Glimpse at the past – 1990
The Elgin CH church began as a store front building on Main Street in Elgin, SC in late 1990. During this time, Wesley Luke began to build the church-building that exists today. He started the construction with very little money and did most of the work himself. Originally only the sanctuary of the church was built. (The Fellowship Hall and the Baptismal were added after Wesley and Judith were Wed. in 1996)
During the beginning stages of the construction, Pastor Luke ran out of money to buy materials. Out of nowhere, a man pulled up in an old truck. He asked Pastor Luke what he was building, and the Pastor told him his plans for a Holiness Church, but that he would have to pause to raise more money to finish the project.
The man went to his old Datsun truck, pulled out some money, and handed it to Pastor Luke. Wesley thanked him and told the kind man to come see him when the church is finished, he said, “Oh, I’ll be seeing you. I’ll be back” but Wesley has never seen him or the truck again. There were numerous blessings like this while the church was being built: to God be the Glory!
Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

A gaze into the future – 2013
The time is 2013 and Elgin CH Church has grown and expects to continue to grow. A vision such as this, more space is needed, and members of the church are gazing to the near future as what God is going to do. During the third quarter, the project for building a new sanctuary will begin. The children of God are with much excitement and expectation for what is soon to come from our new place of worship.
God is doing a new thing to bless the Elgin Community.

Groundbreaking Ceremony
October 5th, 2013 was a special day for the Elgin CH Church with the ground breaking ceremony for a new sanctuary. The building contractor, Robin McLeod, joined Pastor Wesley Luke in sharing words of encouragement to everyone.
Associate Pastor, Judith Luke, led in scripture reading by saying, “We’ve come out to set apart this ground for the building of the House of God.” She went on to lead in a time of reflection of scripture, “Look at Ezra, who was a priest who lived during the time of Nehemiah. When he came, his heart was not so much in building the walls, but it was in building the temple.”
When the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the Lord, the priests and the Levites gave praises and thanksgiving unto the Lord.
All of the people gave a great shout of praise to the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid. The scripture reading followed with the shovels of dirt tossed into the air and shouts of Hallelujah and Praise the Lord – giving honor to God in Heaven for what was to come.
